GRE in 48 hours :(

by Sharique on August 27, 2006

I am really feeling very patriotic 2 days before GRE :P and plus this plane crash news

A passenger plane carrying 50 people has crashed shortly after taking off from an airport in Kentucky, killing all but one on board.

The Comair CRJ-100 jet, bound for Atlanta, Georgia, went down in woods about a mile (1.6km) from Lexington’s airport at about 0610 (1010 GMT).

One man is in a critical condition and is in surgery at the University of Kentucky Hospital.

It is the worst US air accident since November 2001.

World’s oldest university

by Sharique on August 27, 2006

Nalanda

Nalanda was one of the first residential universities, i.e. it had dorms. During its days it was a flourishing residential university with over 10,000 students and 1500 teachers. The university was marked by a lofty wall and one gate. The library was located in a nine storied building. The subjects taught at Nalanda University covered every field of learning. The Tang Dynasty Chinese pilgrim Xuanzang left detailed accounts of the university in the 7th century.

Autonomy?

Tribal leader Nawab Akbar Bugti has been killed in a battle between tribal militants and government forces in Balochistan province, Pakistan says

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/south_asia/5289880.stm

I wonder how many people want autonomy inside Pakistan. If these fanatics are given an opportunity they would have created a lot many Pakistans rather than one. Damn these perverts. He is Nawab Akbar Bugti.

Hitler’s Cross eatery renamed after protests

A restaurant named after Adolf Hitler that enraged Mumbai’s Jewish community will soon have a new monicker, its owner promised Thursday.

Puneet Sablok said he would remove Hitler’s name and the Nazi swastika from billboards and the eatery’s menu since it had angered so many people. He had previously said the name and symbols were only meant to attract attention.

“Yes, I have decided to change the name. I never wanted to hurt people’s feelings,” said Sablok, who made the decision after meeting with members from Mumbai’s small Jewish community. He did not say what the new name would be.

“Once they told me how upset they were with the name, I decided to change it. I never wanted to create this controversy or hurt people with this name,” said Sablok. “I don’t want to do business by hurting people.”

Hitler’s Cross opened five days ago and serves pizza, salad and pastries.

Mumbai’s Jews had called the theme of the restaurant offensive, and demanded a name change. There are about 5,500 Jews in India, with about 4,500 of them living in Mumbai.

On Thursday, Mumbai’s Jewish community welcomed Sablok’s decision. “He realized he made a mistake and listened to reason,” said Elijah Jacob, a community leader. “Some people have wrong conceptions of history and he realized it was not appropriate.”
