I thought they made a mistake while quoting ’166 dead’. I later realized that it was the biggest terrorist attack in Pakistan. Once again innocents, who had absolutely nothing to do power game going on the democrazy of Pakistan, were targeted.

Two bombs exploded Thursday night just seconds apart and feet from a truck carrying the returning opposition leader Benazir Bhutto, narrowly missing her but killing scores of people and bloodying a triumphal homecoming after eight years in exile.

Various reports said up to 126 were killed and some 150 were wounded, including civilians and party workers. In the initial chaos, however, the Interior Ministry could only confirm 70 deaths.

Ms. Bhutto, who had spent eight hours on the roof of the truck waving to supporters, had climbed inside the armored vehicle 10 minutes before the blast occurred just before midnight, said Rehman Malik, Ms. Bhutto’s security adviser and close associate. [nytimes]

bhutto

Benazir Bhutto’s return was being seen as an opportunity to bring democracy back to the country but it seems the extremist aren’t going to be happy with anything less than a Taliban style government. Or was it a planned attack by Musharraf ? The security measures enforced really surprises me. I do understand that it would have been impossible to monitor every citizen who was participating in the rally but at least a tight security near Mrs. Bhutto would have averted this unprecedented loss of human life. Those champions treat human life as just an object of exploitation. They would go to any extreme to get their government in power. The thirst of power has made them shed the principles of Islam and given the jaundiced hypocrites something to blame Islam.

I wrote this long back on the issue of enforcing shariah laws on the present day generation-

I firmly believe that forcing shariah laws down people’s throat is definitely not acceptable. The argument of the above group was that Pakistan was formed on Islamic principles so why its still to adopt complete shariah laws? As far as my knowledge about Pakistan is concerned, the society is divided between the high non-pious class and the ultra-conservative lower class (based on economic divide) so that implies there is no middle class dominance. The rich keep growing richer, and also away from religion, and the lower class keeps falling into the deep chasm of poverty, it uses religion to satiate itself that they one day everyone will be judged on religious deeds and not worldly wealth. This cry for the implementation of ardent laws will leave the society in shatters as the non-pious class cannot come to terms with the ardent laws. This is what happened in Afghanistan when the Taliban were in power; people were forced to pray in mosques and even beaten for this, public execution of culprits which was heavily criticized by the western media as barbaric, restriction of TV,movies and any sort of entertainment. What did they achieve by these? People becoming embittered against the regime and ready to leave the country at earliest given opportunity!

I firmly believe that in this present day world shariah laws cannot be enforced on people because Muslim society in general has diverted away from religion. Concepts which invite death punishment in Islam are now acceptable in many cultures, like live in relationships and extra marital affairs. Westernisation has deeply affected Muslims of all culture alike for reasons which I am not going to delve into here. You cannot amend mistakes by imposing strict laws now. This is actually a way to avoid the complexities involved in bringing the society back to religion.

The current situation requires the Muslim countries to rethink their strategies. I am not asking for a total change in laws so as to make in west compatible but a gradual implementation of shariah so that the inhabitants don’t feel the pinch. Muslims who settled in the western world can be a role model for us. There were certain things in Islam which were pushed to a level where it left a thin line between Islamic laws and western laws. Concepts like women empowerment, freedom of expression and entertainment had to be rethought of by Muslims in western countries to accommodate western way of life. Its not that these concepts were alien to Islam but just that Muslims seems to have paid no heed towards them in the Arab world. Islam was constantly under scrutiny and thus it became imperative for the Muslims to shun these voices of dissent arising from within by adjusting and pushing laws to extreme. It became a must for Islam to exist in the modern day world.

Well just to end this discussion, the disease doesn’t lies with Islam but it lies with the Muslims. They have been reduced from kings to beggars, which is something Muslims in general are still to digest, and they should learn to face circumstances which are not ideally suited for shariah laws to exist.

We need North Indian aggro: Rediff

by Sharique on September 18, 2007

rediff

What the heck is it ?
North Indian agricultural intellect ?
Rediff, you are getting creepy !

A comment on rediff

I just lavvvvvvvvvvvvvvvv rediff. It’s an abode of all the restless souls on this country who love controversies. Rediff has gained so much popularity because it knows how to attract Indians, kindle their emotions linked to religion, caste, region and gender and they automatically turn up to defend their grounds.

The headline above claims that North Indians are more aggressive and thus the new Indian captain has to be a Northy. It pits South Indians against North Indians, Muslims against Hindus and Dalits against Brahmins. I suspect that they have special recruits just to post such incendiary comments.

Sanjaya for president

by Sharique on April 26, 2007

sanjaya_kalam.jpg

Why not? They share their hair styles in common. Sanjaya is now a star in US, well as far as Indians are concerned. Girls die to get their hands on his hair.  He was invited at the White House Correspondents’ Association Dinner as a People Magazine guest where he met President George W. Bush. And above all he is just 17!

PS: No disrespect intended at Mr. Kalam btw. I hope he is re-elected because of his charismatic and pragmatic personality. I am all for our man of science, after all science rules :)

BJP’s Namaskar to UP

by Sharique on April 4, 2007

This is how the BJP’s manifesto in UP reads

1. “Surya namaskar” and Vande Mataram would be made compulsory in all schools, and yoga education mandatory for students.

Yes Vande Mataram should be recited morning and evening. The wording circulate breathing (you breath in when you recite Vande and you breath out when you recite Mataram). But utmost care should be taken while the sacred hymn is being recited as I am told by one of my friend that if this breathing in and breathing out becomes uncontrollable then one can choke to death. But I am sure BJP will recruit an Yoga expert and medical care center in every school.

Mohabbatein taught me that Surya namaskar is done while the sun is rising so I hope schools in UP will now open before sun rise. I am sure they will take every step so as to avoid students doing Surya namaskar the Amitabh Bachchan’s way because he is campaigning for the rival faction, Samajwadi Party.

But as far as my imagination goes, Mohabbatein will give the ideal movie to base their future dream schools. An ideal name- Gurukool, an ideal teacher- Narayan Shankar, the super rich students of rediff reading NRIs. I hope they can do away with any revolutionary like Raj Aryan, make him join ABVP and create trouble on Valentine’s day.

One of the gurus of Yoga once remarked that sex education should be substituted with yoga education and now BJP’s endorsement has put an official seal on it. So Yoga basically takes people away from the sexual desires and facilitates evil free mixing of opposite sex. Basically Yoga makes someone do away with desires so there is no risk of illicit relationships. I am sure that the gurus of Yoga are busy devising asana so as to make someone impotent, at the behest of BJP obviously. Why? Well they want to restrict the population of few communities in this country and Yoga is their silent bomb.

2. The Bharatiya Janata Party has accorded top priority to law and order and ending the criminal-politician nexus in Uttar Pradesh.

Everyone says so. But for that to happen the criminals within should be brought to justice. I needn’t say more but as far as my knowledge is concerned no political party comes to power without muscle power. Even the benign looking CPM are have murderous armies ready to butcher at any given opportunity (Nandigram is an example). The only difference is that top leader of national parties are not involved in crimes as is the case with BJP.

3. A law on the lines of the Prevention of Terrorism Act would be framed. Forces patronising the Students Islamic Movement of India and Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence would be identified and dealt with.

The obvious target is AMU. When SIMI was first banned in India then students were virtually dragged like criminals from their hostels. They were treated like an international terrorist. I am sure something like that will repeat once it assumes power.

4. Women would be given 20 per cent reservation in government jobs and 50 per cent quota in local bodies elections. Girls who passed higher secondary and were living below the poverty line would be given cycles free.

Cycles!? What for? So as to commute for work as house maids? Give them aid or money to carry out their studies.

By only reaction is what Jayaprada gave after reading SP’s manifesto.

Ahmadinejad’s reply to an American mom

by Sharique on March 17, 2007

Rarely does a President of a country reply to emails but Ahmedijad is an exception. He maintains a weblog and also regularly updates it.

Dear sister
Of course, we too hate war – as you do. Certainly, we are not panic-stricken of a defensive war, but we believe there are many diplomatic and peaceful ways and approaches to intercept paranoidal bullying and expansion policies and practices of U.S., Zionist usurper regime – the occupier of Palestine – and Britain. I assure you that Iran would not initiate any war! Unfortunately today, the entire world is somehow afoul of some hostile powers and politicians that are non-edified, power greed and warmongers. Consequently, thousands of innocent human lives are being lost every day and many mothers mourn their beloved children. The greed of the aforementioned politicians for wealth and power is unbounded. The atmosphere of threat and intimidation has made the life unpleasant and miserable for every human being of different nations. Unfortunately, you are not the only one who is tormented and aggrieved from the egoistic politicians with their egotistic mentality. Everyday in Palestine, Iraq, Afghanistan, and almost everywhere in the world, many fathers and mothers mourn their children and have become grief-stricken. Their outcry would not go beyond the high wall of powers – that based on wealth and weapons.
