I mentioned HT’s obsession with Aishwarya-Abhishek’s marriage before. The obsession seems to be getting bigger and bigger. Above is the screen shot of HT’s 23rd April edition, 3 days after marriage and still on the front page. Other newspapers are giving importance to news which deserves attention, BrahMos supersonic.
Ironically another editorial in HT has been critical of this media’s unnecessary coverage of the wedding. The editorial also talks about Abhitabh’s brief stint as politician and how he has ignored people belonging to the literary circle, by not inviting them for the wedding.
Coming back to the Abhishek-Aishwarya wedding, not one known literary figure was invited to the marriage of Harivansh Rai Bachchan’s grandson. The disaffection was pronounced as the Bachchans owe their identity to the Hindi language and the recognition the literary world accorded to the family. It is being pointed out that the wedding had a guest list that, among others, included fixers and the like, while it ignored members of the literary circle. There is also criticism that the Bachchans, synonymous with class at one stage, have allowed their thirst for undue publicity to get the better of them. “The wedding should have been a sombre affair. Look at the dignified way with which Mukesh Ambani celebrated his birthday, a once close friend remarked.
By the way, I have received huge traffic on the Aishwarya Abhishek post even though the posts appears in the 9th page of search result! You can’t blame me for not putting up the wedding pictures, blame your desponess for even coming on a page which is so low ranked in the search engine.
