I Me My,
The situation gets worse if a war is on! But really you have to be an Indian or Pakistani to really cherish Indo-Pak clashes.
JV,
Good point regarding the MNC. But they would be interested in India winning or else they are going to lose huge revenue. it was estimated that a loss of Rs. 35000 crores would have been incurred if India exits in the 1st round.

Tarana,
I am happy you found that funny :)

Abdul,
Don't know about that but they really need to get these inane ads out. Indian players do these ads for money without considering the impact of these ads. I think they better raise their standards of ads that they do. The Sachin ad of a biscuit is equally funny..at least he should consider his age while doing these endorsements.

Dear Shaarique

The Pepsi ad is really the limit! That's not to mention the media hype. I mean, we know you want to sell your cola, but literally turning Yuvraj, Dravid and co, into tigers? I mean, do they really think the average Indian fan is an idiot?

Why we Indians pay so much attention and give improtance to these shamless stupids. On account of publicity they get from the media nd advertisement, they feel that they are something of king or like. They have no accountablity, only hefty persoal bank accounts. Corporate house encashing their fanatic popularity in the public. And most of companies are MNC and they have nothing to do with feelings of any nation in particular.

At least they're not fighting each other in a Kargil or somewhere else along the line of control! Isn't that a relief? As for streets being deserted because people are watching a cricket game, I don't see anything wrong there. We do it here when the NFL Superbowl is on.

Thilak,
It not easy to find stars :) I think instead of throwing them, the board should tighten grip over the advertisement. It should be flexible to the extent that even Sachin can be thrown off!

I Me My,
But unfortunately cricket is not seen that way here. Its another war for the nation. When India met Pakistan in 1996 worldcup, perhaps for the first time in a worldcup, streets were empty in this country. Offices were closed and everyone was at home watching the action. You can relate this to soccer in latin american countries.

"cricket is more than ‘just a game’ in India. Many call it another religion"...uh oh! Therein lies the problem. I wish that weren't the case. I hold cricket and soccer in very high esteem because they are known to do what a United Nations has failed to do in the last so many decades; bring people together to compete in a healthy sort of a way; allowing people to prove their worth within the set parameters of the game without resorting to violence and/ or bloodshed.

They get paid to do brand endorsement and advertisments. Why would they consider playing, when they get paid anyhow!

If it was under my control, I would kick all the 11 and replace them with dudes who are in a better position of playing cricket.

I never meant that violent aspect of 'taught a lesson'. They need to be told that we are wasting far too much money for their training. Our hopes are constantly being dashed. The team has to perform or else make way for juniors. BTW cricket is more than 'just a game' in India. Many call it another religion. I will update this post with pictures and then you can appreciate how much cricket means to Indians :D
