From my experience, NRIs are likely to be more opinionated simply because 1) they can compare India with the countries they experience and they realize whats good abt India and whats NOT. 2) They get the opportunity to have a thrid party objective viewpoint.

i've formed most of my views abt minorities after leaving India. I'm absolutely convinced that they get better treatment than ANY OTHER PLACE I've seen. i had no opportunity to form that view in India.

I Me My,
I really don't know about the situation there but as far as i have seen NRIs are more concerned about the religion they belong to. Kashmiris have always been accused of funding the terrorists and RSS & VHP are also funded by NRIs. But then i cannot generalize this statement...i say this based on news articles i have read.

NRIs are non resident Indians I presume... I'm afraid but I think you do them an injustice by stereotyping them. NRI's who live in the USA as a minority are aware of what it means to be one and are therefore very supportive of minorities in India and elsewhere, and usually come out very strongly in their support. NRIs are certainly not anti-muslim or anti anything that hurts a minority.

Adnan,
Yeah i too have the same feeling. NRIs are more anti-muslims as compared to people here in India. May be thats because of terrorism and they tend to associate us with them. But surprisingly quality education, which NRIs get doesn't help in removing that biasness.

Nazim,
Thanks...may be you should read that article on IM

Sagaro,
Typical of you :P rediff sucks!

Good post, Shaarique.
Anything that is anti-Muslim works well these days in the media. The right-wing Hindu folks rejoice over it and go on to call the media pseudo-secular and minority-appeasing.
@Adnan: "Tilt towards soft kind of Hindutva?". Eh, Rediff might as well be called the online version of Pioneer.
Even I was thinking of posting about the issue, but you've mouthed my words, Shaarique.

Ya, I saw that. You are right. Actually I had also noticed. Rediff is like...it had (has)a tilt towards soft kind of Hindutvaa. May be because they feel that such stuff gets more hits.
Over the years I have realised that on ground level you may have 5-10% people who are really communal and a fraction of even that figure would dare to speak up publicly. But amongst netizens, the percentage of lumpens is much high (it could be true for all communities including Christians, Muslims, Jews etc).
Anyway, so Rediff also panders to such baser emotions. They know their target group, the users including NRIs, where I sadly find more anti-Muslim bias. The columnists which they earlier chose also suggested the same. Their headlines have been provocative quite often. But then, what can one do. I have grappled with this problem. At how many fora you raise voice or your just sit up and let everybody mock you or you write on your blog or you do a campaign for every such thing on a million blogs and sites or you go to mouthshut.com and write.....But you have pointed it out correctly.
