The quota row

by Sharique on April 11, 2008

Suddenly the sleeping giant is awake. But I am happy because

  • the creamy layer has been excluded
  • cut-off marks for admission has been set as a maximum of 10 (I hope its strictly adhered to)
  • there is  phased implementation of the quota

And headlines like 27 pc quota upheld: Are OBCs India’s new rulers? aren’t just contemptuous, they are virulent as well.

You’re right .. it’s not as bad as it could have been.
The problem though is that most of the institutes of higher education are running tight on facilities anyway, and to expand by over 50% (even phased over 3 years) can only cut down drastically on quality of education.
Also, the way things work, do you think the creamy layer exemption will do much good?

BrownSandokan,
Even though creamy layer exception will be only on papers, it will at least be illegal. No one refers to laws normally but everyone does in case of a breach.
