Women’s day message

by Sharique on March 8, 2007

I have nothing extraordinary to say but I wonder where are we headed. I think women today rarely suffer from male dominance. They really have changed things drastically. When Britney’s hair were up for sale for a whooping $1m, I thought she is now breaking the traditional male dominance over income market. When Mandira Bedi was hired as a cricket commentators, I though the TV has just got better in the lunch breaks. She too is giving men a tough fight in the money market, she is planning to sell her ‘one time’ used saaris on ebay. But when I read this

A nine-year-old Singaporean student, who did not realise she was pregnant, gave birth to a boy after it became too late for her to abort the baby.

Her horrified mother found out that her daughter was six-month pregnant when she took her to a doctor for what she thought was a urine infection.

By that time, it was too late for the girl to go for abortion.

I wonder where are we headed!

Nothing to wonder much. Such incidents happen, yes they are not very common but not too uncommon either. And they don’t have anything to do with empowerment or subjugation of women.

Indscribe,
That was a post sarcastic anyways :) I understand your point but people consider them as role models for women, uska kya?

perplexed. are you implying that these two, i.e. women’s lib and the incident in SG are somehow linked? how? i think you can find better arguments against the abuse of ‘feminism’ than naming a possible crime against a kid or a mistake by the kid (which the kid is obviously not capable of even fully understanding). Also who considers such incidents as role models?????
