SIX-YEAR-OLD KISHORE Kumar was sullenly walking out of Mahim station towards his school, when he suddenly saw a strong white jet of water at the corner of the road. His first reaction — “Aweeesome.

The spectacular fountain was a result of a major pipeline-burst near Mahim station on Saturday at about 10.30 am. “The feeder arm connected to the main pipeline, and which goes to the Malabar reservoir, is damaged, probably because of the wornout condition of the pipe, said a Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) official from the hydraulics department. Two people were hurt when the pipe burst and were given first-aid.

“It’s bad enough there is a pipe-burst, now people are making it a tourist attraction, said an exasperated traffic policeman after chasing away a couple of thrilled Americans, who had gotten out of their car to capture their slice of India.
